Public Record Exemption Notices

Social Security Numbers
On or after October 1, 2002, any person preparing or filing a document for recording in the Official Record may not include a social security number in such document unless required by law.

Any person has the right to request the Clerk/County Recorder to redact/remove his social security number from an image or copy of an Official Record that has been placed on such Clerk/County Recorder's publicly available Internet website.

The request must be legibly written, signed, and delivered in person, by mail, or facsimile to the Clerk/County Recorder. The request must specify the identification page number that contains the social security number. No fee is charged for this service.

To avoid a delay in processing, forms are available from this link and in the Public Access Department, upon request.  Because of the risk of computer viruses attached to electronic signatures, this Office requires a fax back rather than an email with attachments.  Requests may be faxed to (941) 861-7738.

Military Discharges, Death Certificates, and Court Files relating to matters of Family Law, Criminal, Juvenile and Probate
Any person has a right to request that a County Recorder or Clerk of the Court remove an image or copy of a public record, including an official record, from a publicly available Internet website if that image or copy is of a military discharge; death certificate; or a court file, record, or paper relating to matters or cases governed by the Florida Rules of Family Law, the Florida Rules of Juvenile Procedure, or the Florida Probate Rules which has been filed on or before June 5, 2002. All records of this nature filed after June 5, 2002, may not be viewed on the Internet but access may be obtained from the Clerk of Court office in the Public Access department. No record deemed confidential by the legislature will be open for viewing. The request must be made in writing and delivered in person or by mail or facsimile to the County Recorder or Clerk of the Court. Because of the risk of computer viruses attached to electronic signatures, this Office requires a fax back rather than an email with attachments. Requests may be faxed to (941) 861-7738. The request must identify the case number and the document identification page number of the document to be removed.  No fee is charged for this service.

To avoid a delay in processing, forms are available from this link and in the Public Access Department, upon request.
